CHURCH CROWNS

1 COR 11:10 "Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels" (NASB) Honoring God was/is foremost but the tradition of adorning their heads with the most beautiful, bold, bodacious, extraordinary crowns one could imagine is a tradition among Black women that became popular after slavery. They are an expresion of the Black woman's belief in themselves even when society tells them otherwise. They are a statement of what it means to be a Black churchgoing woman. They go from the unusal to the outrageous and they make the wearer feel independent and fabulous to say the least. My pots are my way of honoring the tradition of extraordinary crowns, the Black woman's church hats.
